Job Description
Job Title : Medical Assistant/Tech Reports to : Brooke Cundiff
Department : FLSA Status : Non-Exempt
SECTION 1: Job Summary (Summary of the basic functions of the position)
Serves as support personnel, under the direction of the registered nurse (RN), in accordance with established regulations for the practice of Medical Assistant/Tech, Federal, State, and accreditation standards and SCSC policies and procedures. Participates in direct patient care and maintains a clean, orderly and safe environment. Assists in maintaining medical records and post-operative follow-ups. Identifies and reports to the supervisor inventory/ supply needs.
SECTION 2: Duties and Responsibilities (Responsibilities necessary to accomplish job functions)
- Adheres to all safety policies and procedures in performing job duties and responsibilities while supporting a culture of high quality and great customer service.
- Performs other duties that may be necessary or in the best interest of the organization.
SECTION 3: Patient Population Served (For nursing / patient care positions)
- Team members will work with patients of all ages, races, and genders.
Section 4: Education, Licensure & Certification Requirements
- Highschool Diploma
- BLS Certification
Section 5: Experience Requirements
Previous medical office experience preferred; previous ophthalmic experience strongly preferred.

- Basic to intermediate computer operation Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Travel to other site locations may be necessary. Thus, those needing to travel for work must have access to dependable transportation, and driving record must meet company liability carrier standards
- Specialty knowledge of systems relating to job function
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations for this position; general understanding of HIPAA guidelines
Location: Work takes place in a normal surgical environment. Travel to other locations may be necessary to fulfill essential duties and responsibilities of the job. Thus, those needing to travel for work must have access to dependable transportation, and driving record must meet company liability carrier standards.
Exposure: Works in normal surgical environment. This position requires working various hours, as the surgery center is generally open from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. May be exposed to blood or bodily fluids. May also be exposed to various cleaning supplies.
Equipment: Phaco machine, unipolar cautery, bipolar cautery, smoke evacuation, autoclaves, indirect ophthalmic scope, portable light, Cryo unit, light pole unit & telephones. Other equipment may be used as needed. Must be able to work with precise tools and equipment; must have dexterity to use these items correctly and safely. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment.
