SUMMARY:  To provide full scope medical eye care to the patients of Prime Eye Care

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Performs ocular examinations to determine visual function as well as ocular and systemic health.
  • Prescribe therapeutic pharmaceutical agents, eyeglasses, contact lenses and other visual aids to correct and conserve vision.
  • Actively work with other healthcare providers to treat patient’s ocular and systemic diseases.  This includes referrals for surgery, medical diagnostic testing, laboratory tests and primary care provider feedback for our mutual patients.
  • Appropriately code patient visits following CMS guidelines.
  • Comply with requirements for training in fraud, waste and abuse as directed by government agencies and insurance companies.
  • After hours patient triage for visual urgencies and emergencies.
  • DEA license is required for this position.
  • Must work to support the other team members to provide for our patients visual needs, including educating patients of ophthalmic lens options to improve their visual function.
  • Literate in electronic medical record keeping and basic computer skills.
  • Performs all duties required in an accurate, efficient, professional, and confident manner.
  • Maintains high standards of clinical hygiene at all times.
  • Complies with regulatory requirements to practice optometry in the State of Arizona as defined by the Arizona State Board of Optometry.
  • Other duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must be comfortable dealing in proximity with the public.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Doctorate of Optometry degree from accredited school.  Residency in medical eye care or prior medical eye care experience is preferred. 

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to communicate effectively with patients, providers, staff, opticians and managers.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demand described here are representative of those that must be met by a team member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to stand; sit; walk; use hands to finger; handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The team member is occasionally required to walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those a team member encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The team member is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The team member is occasionally exposed to communicable diseases and medical preparations common to a clinic environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
